STONEY CREEK QUILTERS GUILD

WORKSHOP SUPPLIES LIST

APRIL |  Al Cote - Quilted Rug Class

In this very innovative and fun class, students will create a beautiful one of a kind quilted rug. Using at least three and up to five fabrics, plus batting and backing, we will layer the fabrics making a sandwich. Then students will "doodle" a design on the top fabric and stitch their doodle through all layers.

Once they have their design secured they will cut through to the desired colours underneath and begin to see their rug pattern and colors appear.

Once all the cutting is complete they will echo quilt inside the cut design.

Supplies needed:

  • At least three and up to five fabrics. Each fabric should be 1/2 m X wof. Choose colors and patterns you like. Try to mix it up with solids, large patterns and small patterns. ( stay away from stripes and directional patterns.
  • It works best if you use NEW fabric ( older fabrics tend to.......look tired)
  • A backing fabric ( I like to use plain muslin)
  • Batting...bamboo works fine but stay away from "puffy" batting. I recommend using Battilizer which is a combination of batting and stabilizer. This can be purchased from me for $10 a meter.
  • Sewing machine in good working condition
  • Pins
  • 1/4" foot
  • Walking foot
  • Free motion foot or darning foot
  • Assorted threads to match or compliment your fabrics
  • Fabric marking pencil ( white or dark)
  • Paper....typing paper is fine ( maybe three sheets)
  • Small scissors ( very sharp ) and seam ripper
  • Rotary cutter
  • Ruler (6 1/2 X 24) works great
  • For added technique version you should also bring..... Assorted beads
  • Assorted embroidery threads
  • Ribbons
  • Wool
  • Thicker embroidery threads ( I personally like Sue Spargo Collection)
  • All these items can be in contrasting or co ordinating colors as the fabrics you choose for your rug
  • Open mind and ready to work!
